Providing 15,000 sq ft of space for small creative firms to start and expand, the Creative Media Centre was one of the first Sea Space projects completed as part of the wider economic development programme for Hastings and Bexhill.

Two previously disused sites in Robertson Street were redeveloped into the prestigious set of serviced office suites and retail space we see today.

One part of the Centre is housed in refurbished premises, while the other is an entirely new building. Shortlisted for an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects, it uses low energy and environmentally friendly techniques such as locally sourced natural and recycled materials – while its rear façade has a striking multi-coloured glass rain shield.

The America Ground

The vibrant, commercial nature of the Centre perfectly aligns itself with the history and spirit of the surrounding area – known as the America Ground.

This extraordinary story dates back to the 1820s when local residents and businesses audaciously declared themselves in support of the American Revolution by hoisting the American Stars and Stripes flag – effectively signalling their independence from the rest of the United Kingdom.

This year on Independence Day itself, Sunday 4th July, the event will be marked by a day of festivities celebrating the shops, cafés, bars and businesses in the area.
